Going to Corfu, Greece on a budget

Corfu in June: Beach Days, Sunset Views, and Mediterranean Magic

Travel Date: June 16, 2024

If you're heading to Corfu in June, just know you'll be chasing the sun—straight to the beach during the day and then into town at night for cold cocktails, fresh seafood, and the warm buzz of Mediterranean nightlife.

We stayed at a charming little Bed & Breakfast in Pelekas called Magdalena’s. It was the perfect balance of local charm and comfort. The room was cozy, the shower stayed hot, and—bless—the AC worked like a dream. You'll need it because summers in the Med are hot.

📍 Where We Stayed
Magdalena’s BnB – $250 for 3 nights
This place was such a gem. It had an onsite restaurant that served breakfast, lunch, and dinner—super affordable and really good. Think: Greek yogurt in the morning, grilled octopus in the evening, and a glass of wine under the stars

What We Did: Cliffside Cocktails & Ocean Swims

One of our favorite spots on the island was La Grotta Beach Bar —and trust me, it’s even more stunning in person than it is in pictures. Tucked into the side of a cliff, this hidden gem offers breathtaking views, crystal-clear turquoise water, and major European summer vibes.

We splurged a little and rented a daybed (totally worth it), sipped on icy cocktails, and soaked in the sun for hours. When we needed a refresh, we took turns jumping off the cliff into the sea. It’s a little wild—but unforgettable.

There’s also a restaurant carved into the cliffside, where we grabbed a bite between swims. Everything about La Grotta felt like a movie scene.

🪂 Optional adrenaline: Cliff-jumping included

What we drank- Cafe Freddo’s were whipped instant coffee with frothy milk layer on top of it. It was the only coffee drink I ordered through out Greece!

Getting Around Corfu: Taxi, Uber, or Rent Your Own Ride?

When it comes to transportation in Corfu, it really depends on your budget, travel style, and sense of adventure.

We opted for Ubers and taxis, thinking it would be the more affordable route. Spoiler alert: it added up fast. We paid about $40 each way just to get to and from our BnB, which came out to $80 a day over 3 days. Looking back, it wasn’t ideal—we didn’t get to see as much of the island as we wanted.

🚌 Public transportation is an option, and you can check bus schedules through Apple Maps (which is surprisingly handy). But fair warning: our bus didn’t show up when it said it would, which is not uncommon in smaller Greek towns.

🚗 Things to consider if you're planning a trip:

  • If you’re traveling with a friend or partner, and one of you has a motorcycle license (from the U.S. or your home country), renting a moped might be your best bet.
    Cost: Around $80 per day
Bonus: More flexibility and a scenic ride!

  • Renting a car costs around $180 a day, so it’s definitely the pricier option—but great if you're exploring the entire island or have more people to split the cost
